We arrived at Anglesey full of optimism following the two podiums we scored at Rockingham, so we were eager to get going.
In practice I felt quick from the first session and I knew I must have been lapping at a decent pace because I was passing some of my closest rivals in the championship, so I was feeling good. In the second session I lost the front into turn 2 under braking, the bike wasn’t too damaged and I got up and walked away. I didn’t feel that I did anything wrong for the crash to happen, but these things happen! We continued improving through the day and on the night we decided to alter the setting slightly for qualifying the following morning, which luckily worked out well!
In qualifying the conditions were perfect like they were the previous day, I felt good lapping 2 seconds quicker than I was last year. I qualified 4th in class, 13th overall which was slightly disappointing, but I knew we had good consistent race pace and only 4 tenths of a second separated 8th-14th position, so it was so close!
In race 1 I got a decent initial launch off the line, but at turn two I nearly got taken out which resulted in me losing around 10 places, so I got my head down and tried making up as many places as possible. Unfortunately I out braked myself into Rocket corner, taking out fellow competitor Nick Edgeley in the process. He was understandably raging with me, but luckily for me he accepted my apology and we shook hands. When I crashed I went down heavily on my left side, injuring my shoulder and hip. I was taken to the medical centre and then Bangor hospital for scans and it turns out I had torn ligaments in my shoulder and just internal bruising/swelling on my hip, so I got away with that one! Sadly it means I won’t be able to race at Oulton Park because my shoulder just won’t be healed in time and I can’t risk crashing and doing permanent damage. So I very reluctantly have to sit that one out and focus on being fit for Donington for the final round in October.
Thanks for all the well wishes and support, I’ll be back soon! #10
